Yuletide!

Busy reacquainting myself with the canon for my Yuletide assignment and having ALL THE FEELS over it. Gosh I love it. NOW I JUST HAVE TO LIVE UP TO IT WITH MY FIC?

Anyways, it seems like Yuletide is being....thoughtful or something, over the years, with the progression of my assignments. My first year, I was assigned fairy tales, which is a fandom for which I could write blindfolded and with one hand tied behind my back. My second year, I was assigned Hark! A Vagrant, which is not such a gimme as fairy tales for me, but is still pretty straightforwardly easy to write about. And now this year I get to go up another difficulty level! Of the fandoms I signed up to write, it's the one that's the biggest stretch for me (and I was secretly convinced all along I'd be assigned for EXACTLY THAT REASON). SHOULD BE FUN but also probably stressful! I'm currently turning ideas over in my mind as to what exactly to write about, because there are so many possibilities. I kind of want to write the One True Perfect Fic that encompasses ALL the questions that want answers, but I think that's probably out of my range and I should be a bit more focused. But then which bit DO I focus on????

DUDE DUDE DUDE YOU GUYS I AM DONE MY YULETIDE FIC AND IT IS POSTED.

I am feeling very self-satisfied right now. I am even pleased with the story and everything! I had been dragging my feet on beginning to work on it for a VERY LONG TIME because I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do but it wasn't very inspiring. And then yesterday I was hit by the SUDDEN LIGHTNING of a PERFECT IDEA. And I went \\\o/// and immediately went to town on it and wrote the draft in one sitting. Today betaing and editing happened, and now it is DONE and POSTED. It's amazing how much easier writing is when you have an inspiring idea!

Anyways, when I got my assignment I was a little bit leery because the characters I was supposed to work with were ones I was worried about being able to get right. But my recipient was basically the perfect recipient for me as their interests allowed me to write about basically the theme I love best, and I think I ended up doing a reasonable job on the characters as a result. Win all around! Hopefully my recipient likes it as much as I do.

Oops?

Fffff I need to be writing my NaNo THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT TIME TO BE STALKING MY YULETIDE PARTICIPANT. RECIPIENT. [Obviously I did not have much of a brain last night when I wrote this.... I'm also pretty sure I miscounted days in the paragraph below.]

Dearest Sophia: you have WEEKS in December to devote to Yuletide's 1000 words! You only have 8 (and a bit) days to finish NaNo's 19,000! PRIORITIES, YOU NEEDS THEM.

At any rate, my recipient looks like a really cool person and I hope I can write a good enough fic! I matched on something that I knew wouldn't be a gimme fandom when I offered it, so it should stretch me in ways that my last Yuletide didn't. But then last Yuletide I matched on Fairy Tales, which is the gimme-est of gimme fandoms for me, since it is my first and dearest and longest-lasting fandom love. So in comparison ANYTHING is more challenging!

I hope I will come out of it just as pleased with the results of my efforts, though! And I think the challenge is exciting. (let's see what I think about that when I actually start trying to write, though. Heh.)

My Yuletide assignment! I haz it! And I am very pleased. It's for one of the fandoms that I knew would be easier for me to write, as opposed to one of the ones that would have stretched me in interesting ways. The latter would have been a lot of fun to do, but this is much less stressful and still very fun! I already have an idea of what I want to do with it (mostly), and have written the first paragraph and everything! *is excited*

Also, um, I've been stalking the spreadsheet of Yuletide Letters, and one of the requests that I came across was just so UNUTTERABLY PERFECT that I simply had to start writing that one too. So I'm a paragraph into that, which I shall hopefully finish in time to be a Yuletide Madness fic.

But. I should be writing an essay right now, not fanfic. So let me now bid farewell to the internet and go do that instead. *sigh*

Eee, I am so excited for Halloween. Today I went thrift-storing it up, to find the requisite ingredients for my costume.

SUCCESS.

There are two bits that I am borrowing from a friend, but everything else I was able to find in reasonable facsimile at the thrift store, all the way down to the feet! I have to use my Mad Sewing Skilz to alter the size of one piece of the costume (or two pieces, depending on how much work I feel like doing, but the second isn't as urgent), but other than that I am good to go! It is super exciting.

Note how I'm very carefully not saying what I'm dressing up as. That's a secret until Halloween. :D I'll share a photo with you then, though, don't worry!

(And yes, I am currently wearing all of my shiny new purchases. But alas I'll have to take it all off to go to bed. Including the footwear. I don't ever want to take the footwear off -- I think I'm going to wear them ALL THE TIME now, even though they are emphatically not of a style usually associated with skirts.... They're just so COMFORTABLE. And also AWESOME!)

In other news, I have finished collecting all of my favourite vids into a folder, and gosh, for someone who only a couple of months ago was not a big fan of vids, I sure have a lot. FIFTY-ONE, TO BE EXACT. Egads.
