Labyrinth
I have finally seen the cultural phenomenon that is Labyrinth! Thank you to housemate E for watching it with me because otherwise who knows how long it would have taken me to getting around to watching it. It was....you know, pretty much what tumblr had led me to expect, yup. Very 80's, very weird, very compelling.
The pacing could have used some work (it got a little tedious in points) but I appreciated the aesthetics (SPARKLES ON EVERYTHING. INCLUDING THE DARK AND CREEPY SCENERY) and I appreciated the accuracy of Sarah's degree of teenagerness but also her resourcefulness and commitment to seeing things through, and of course how could a person not appreciate David Bowie. Though his hair is really unfortunate.
I also like that the thing that allows Sarah to save the day is her obsessed interest with dressing up and theatre which she's ridiculed for in the beginning - she has that speech memorized from the play The Labyrinth and that's what works in the end.
Anyway now I'm probably going to have "Dance, Magic" stuck in my head for the next several days.
