Charity Girl, by Georgette Heyer
WHEW, this is back to being a more fun Heyer again, thank goodness. I mean, Heyer is never issueless, but I was able to mostly just enjoy this book.
And I was relieved that, despite appearances, this is not one of the ones where the older, worldly-wise male lead marries an underage ingenue he just met. Instead it's a man and a woman who are peers and who have been bffs their whole life! Both of them are competent and responsible adults who take seriously the needs of other people in their lives, both of them clearly genuinely like and respect each other, and they're just so obviously comfortable with each other. NICE.
(Of course, the underage ingenue does still marry an older man she just met, so it's not like that doesn't happen in this book, it's just not the romance with the focus....)
