I tip my hat to you for finishing it, LOL. Re the historical language and writing style, perhaps it's not in vogue publishing-wise? Like, aside of a handful of authors (like KJ Charles, frex), most writers write in a way more contemporary style than expected. I...am on the fence as to how much is too much historical writing wise.

Mainly cuz I don't like to be challenged or feel like I need to struggle when reading (for pleasure--which is 100% of the reason why I pick up any profic novel.) Ymmv, there's no One True Way of enjoying a book, etc.
