I still have no idea how to pronounce most of the names! I know the way I pronounce them in my head is incorrect, though.

I think at this point the pronunciations I have in my head are in the same vicinity as the "proper" pronunciations, though the tones continue to be a problem and also the consonant cluster of z/c/zh/j/ch/q/x/sh. The vowels feel easier for me. It did take me quite a while to internalize that gege isn't pronounced "gaygay" though!

It truly sucks. My number one biggest complaint about the show is how dirty it does the women. It would have been really easy to alter just a few things and give them more roundness!

The thing is. the thing is. the show already altered a lot from the book to give them more to do! there are many things I adore about the book but it spends soooo little time on its female characters. and it's obvious to me that the show worked really hard to better integrate them into the overall story. do I wish it had been even more? yes I do. but I'm grateful they did as much as they did tbh!

Idk how it is in the book, but I definitely read Wen Ning as being cognitively disabled in some way or another. Otherwise the way he's treated (by both the characters and the show itself) doesn't make since for his age.

he really doesn't come across this way in the book to me, at least so far! (I'm about 70% of the way into the book.) He's quiet and shy so you really don't get a significant understanding of his interiority but he seems just as grown up as the rest of his peers imo.

I adore you!
