Dear Creator Letter for Danmei Fanworks Exchange
Hello creator! this is pretty much a copy of what's in my sign-up so refer to this or to the form on ao3, whichever you find easier.
OVERALL LIKES (ALL REQUESTS):
- stories set post-canon, pre-canon, mid-canon
- canon divergence au
- fun tropey nonsense with an underlayer of feelings (examples of tropes I love: amnesia, bodyswap or body sharing, the thing where a character meets a version of themself from a different world where things went differently, timeloops, truth serum, pretending to be a couple)
- the setting/location being an important presence in the story as well
- nonstandard writing choices (if your fic would work best in second person, or with an unusual voice, or a nonstandard narrative structure, or whatever else -- if you're wanting to give it a go then I'm a good audience for it! but don't push yourself if this isn't an interest for you)
- that thing where things going badly is inevitable because the characters are so exquisitely and exactly who they are that they couldn't make any other choices even if other choices would be better for them
- I am a happy multishipper and love rarepairs so please feel free to work in whatever ships you so desire. people can have weird intense feelings that might or might not involve sex or Romance and it's interesting to me in whichever ways
- endings can be happy or hopeful or bittersweet or bitterly satisfied or knifey as you see fit!

- you might also have noticed that all my requests involve ling wen. I decided to go for a ling wen sweep this year! I want to read SO much fic about her always, but she's not as popular as some other characters in the fandom!
- she's so capable and efficient, and sneaky and private, and a good friend when she can be, but won't put friendship above her other priorities, and has a strong need to be in control of situations! Great at putting on a polite face whenever she needs to, and hardly lets anyone see her full and true self. Willing to do terrible things to fulfill her goals. I love her very much.
- if you are the kind of person who has also spent a bunch of time thinking about ling wen's relationship with gender, please, I'm your captive audience for this.
- I have a vision of heavenly emperor Ling Wen. it's a beautiful vision to me. join me if you want to.
REQUESTS
TGCF - Bai Jin & Ling Wen
We only hear about Ling Wen's backstory second-hand from biased sources! it might be all true or mostly true or only slightly true, or technically true but interpreted all wrong, etc, etc. she's not telling. But Bai Jin is clearly important to her, despite whatever went down. Clearly a complex relationship between the two of them. I'd love to get that explored some more!
TGCF - Ling Wen & Xie Lian
I love their friendship, and I love their dynamic! I don't have anything specific I'm looking for in this, but one thought I had is that it would be super fun to put them through some of the types of tropes that usually get used for romantic shenanigans between two characters in a ship, and them having to navigate the awkwardness of it
TGCF - He Xuan/Ling Wen/Shi Qingxuan
recently a friend opened my eyes to the fact that ling wen is basically living the "good end" version of he xuan's life and...it kind of sucks. this is so galaxy brained. mash these characters together and play with those themes! god. it's so good to me.
TGCF - Ling Wen & Pei Ming, or Ling Wen/Pei Ming
these two requests are basically the same request. their fucked up friendship is so weird and delicious to me! and like. is it sexual or romantic? eh. that isn't the important aspect to them. they're Important to each other and that's the relevant part. Not that either of them would ever say anything positive and emotionally affirming to each other! idk just have fun with it.
also. I would like to put forward the notion of: ling wen nonsexually domming pei ming. I will ALWAYS read more of this. it's so good for me.

the GENDER of it.....and ling wen being friends with sqx's creepy domineering brother and probably knowing the worst of everything swd did and is willing to do, that sqx is oblivious to.... and everything sqx does being filtered through the lens of thinking about what swd's opinion would be.... and the way the two of them are seen SO differently by the rest of heaven but neither of them is really taken seriously. there are just so many interesting unspoken undercurrents of connection between the two of them!
