(no subject)

HOLD ME INTERNET, I HAVE ALL THE LES MIS FEELS.

Expect further details tomorrow when it's no longer past my bedtime and also I've seen it a second time.

(WHAT? Obviously I needed to see it with Essie, since we've been fanning over Les Mis together for something like eight years, and obviously having already seen it is no reason to not go see it with my family tomorrow.)

My opinion in short: largely competent, some wtf choices, some utter brilliance, and ultimately full of feels.

And now I should go to bed before I accidentally write up all my thoughts on my ipod. Sleep is important!

Wow, I don't know what's happening, but Les Mis isn't released here until late March! O.o

BUT I'M GLAD TO KNOW IT'S AS GOOD AS IT LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD BE!

WELL, META, FEELS -- WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? :D I'll be thrilled to read it either way.

FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN FROM YOUR POSTS, WE DEFINITELY SHARE SOME FEELINGS.

Be warned: I haven't even seen it for the second time yet (THIS AFTERNOON!) and already I've written nearly 2,000 words for my post about it and am nowhere near done. UM. WHOOPS.

Haha, I am planning to see it again tomorrow, so I'm holding off on typing up thoughts until then, but I am betting thousands of words.

In the meantime, LES AMIS.

An excellent plan! I will definitely be interested to read your thoughts! Especially since it appears you come to this movie with rather more ACTUAL INFORMATION about the contents of the story.

(Look, my entire exposure to Les Miserables is listening to the soundtrack a billionty times in high school. It gave me lots of feels but left me shaky on certain details. Like for example I had to go google what you meant by "LES AMIS" - I mean obviously it means "the friends" but hey, I had no idea it refers to the students who all hang out at the ABC Cafe all the time!)

Well, I spent high school listening to a million cast recordings (I think I'm up to 7 or 8 full recordings now, in 4 languages, plus some other miscellaneous tracks). I saw the show eventually and was a bit disappointed by the staging, and I read parts of the books. Mostly I lurked on the fringes of the fandom. But I think some of the stuff in the movie was bringing back in book elements, and I don't know the book well enough to say which parts.

But musicals fandom in general was my first fandom and now I am having ALL THE FEELS and thinking about writing creepy Jekyll & Hyde fic and IDEK. I have a sad feeling musicals fandom is all high schoolers on Tumblr now.

oh dude now I really wish I had a million cast recordings too, because I have all of ONE, and I'd love to see how the different recordings have different interpretations! somehow though back in high school it never even occurred to me to go looking?

Anyways musicals are the best and I was never really in any musical fandom (and in fact I feel like I haven't seen NEARLY enough musicals to properly engage) but I LOVE MUSICALS A HELL OF A LOT

Musical fandom was kind of weird, as it was composed half of REALLY ENTHUSIASTIC HIGH SCHOOLERS and middle-aged women and everyone was VERY PASSIONATE as you can probably tell by the vicious, vicious reviews of the movie soundtrack.

(Multiple cast recordings can, uh, probably be arranged. *cough*)

Oh, yeah, I totally believe it. And if I'd gotten involved I would have been one of those REALLY ENTHUSIASTIC HIGH SCHOOLERS with a lot of passion. I mean, I was that anyways, just on my own and about the really very few musicals I actually knew!

(ooh yes please! <3)

[identity profile] carmarthen.livejournal.com 2012-12-29 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally was! Although even then I was a little unnerved by the middle-aged woman who insisted that if a man loved her enough to kidnap and imprison her a la the Phantom, it would be ~so romantic~, apparently believing she really would feel that way. I...can't imagine ever feeling so lonely I would start thinking kidnapping was romantic IRL. :-(

This is, probably, the 50 Shades of Grey demographic.

I AM A MUSICAL PUSHER. HAVE YOU HEARD JEKYLL & HYDE? CHESS?

:((( oh dear me, that is...really sad, actually, that that woman really believed that. And that enough do to make such storylines SELL in the quantity that 50 Shades (and other creepy romance novels) do.

I have Chess (the Chess in Concert recording)! Haven't LISTENED to it yet, but fully intend to! And I've never even HEARD of a musical version of Jekyll & Hyde!
