Belle
I unexpectedly discovered a local showing this evening of Belle (the new-ish movie about Dido Elizabeth Belle), and of course I had to go see it, because a) DIDO ELIZABETH BELLE and b) this is a movie where the director, writer, and lead actor are all women of colour.
AND YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS!!!!!!! It is everything I love. I had to do a lot of clutching of my face for pretty much the entire movie to restrain myself from making undignified squeeing noises.
.It started off a bit uneven - I rolled my eyes at some of the expositiony dialogue - but mostly it was just GLORIOUS.
Okay, okay, so here's an incomplete tabulation of what I love:
1. FEMALE FRIENDSHIP FEELS
2. FAMILY FEELS
3. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE ROMANCE BETWEEN DIDO AND HER LOVE INTEREST
4. THE WAY THAT WOMEN AND THEIR OPINIONS AND CHOICES ARE SO CLEARLY SEEN AS IMPORTANT and pretty nearly all the female characters in the movie get excellent humanizing moments
5. ALL THE STUFF ABOUT RACISM AND RACE RELATIONS, BOTH SUBTLE AND HUGE (everything from Dido not knowing how to best care for her hair because she was raised by white people, to the massacre of 142 slaves on the slave ship Zong for insurance money)
6. AND ALSO EVERYTHING ELSE.
Let me expand on point 3 because GOD I SHIP THEM HARD.

TWO EXTREMELY PRETTY PEOPLE
WHO CLEARLY CARE PASSIONATELY ABOUT DOING WHAT IS RIGHT
AND HAVE INTENSE DISCUSSIONS WITH EACH OTHER ABOUT IT
AND ARE SUPER INTO BOTH EACH OTHER AND THOSE DISCUSSIONS
AND RESPECT EACH OTHER
AND HAVE GREAT CHEMISTRY WITH EACH OTHER WHILE BEING PRETTY AND PASSIONATE AND ADORABLE
