yes more about that musical
The more I listen to The Great Comet the more I think to myself that what I really want to see is the version where Helene is Natasha's bad-news lover instead of Anatole. WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT. (by great I don't mean that I ship it in an "oh how romantic" way but in a "this would be terribly unhealthy but oh so interesting" way)
While we're at it let's also cut Pierre because let's face it all he does is angst and have that duel. I already skip like half of Pierre's songs anyways.
And for that matter let's get rid of Andrey's actual appearance in the show. I mean, there's such emphasis throughout most of the show on Andrey's absence. Andrey not being there looms very large! And then Andrey actually shows up and it's entirely anticlimactic and I'm just like YOU WASTED ALL YOUR LEAD-UP. It would work better if Andrey was NEVER there. (I mean yes there is that great line about him reminding Pierre of Andrey's father for a moment, but I am more than willing to give that line up for the Greater Good.)
Let's also cut Balaga because he's so pointless and the show spends an entirely disproportionate amount of time on him. Yes, the song is fun, but it entirely derails the forward momentum of the actual story.
And since we cut one of the main characters and some pointless fluff, we have space now to make the b-plot about Natasha and Mary attempting to be friends with each other. Or maybe a Nikolai/Mary/Sonya ot3? At any rate SOMETHING MORE INTERESTING THAN PIERRE, which quite frankly would be just about anything.
Okay there we go can this version please exist?
(I would settle for there just being fanfic about Helene/Natasha. Does THAT exist? I didn't find any in a cursory look through AO3....)
