WELL I guess I finally have a new fandom-obsession. The Untamed!!!!!!

It's been ages since my last real fall into a fandom, which is so weird, because they always used to happen back to back or even overlapping. But I think I faded out of my most recent fandom in 2017ish if I've calculated right. That's approaching 4 years ago! I've missed the sensation of overwhelming joy and love, and always having something worth thinking about whenever I'm bored. And yeah, sure, many of my old fandoms I never leave behind completely, the love is still there -- but it's not omnipresent anymore. It's different to have something be my Current Obsession.

Also unusual about this one: generally if I'm going to fall for a fandom it happens fast. This one....well I read my first fanfic for The Untamed/MDZS more than a YEAR ago, and I've been steadily reading more ever since, just casually you know, because it's what I keep seeing around. I even tried and failed to read the novel at some point. But in the last week or so something tipped over and now this fandom is My Thing.

What changed? I do not know! But here we are! I I started watching the show just a couple days ago and am already 3 1/2 episodes in (I know, objectively not much, but for me it's impressive), and I keep on giggling with glee at it, and also just having feelings about seeing the faaaaaaces of everyone I care a lot about.

I am mostly burned out on MDZS fandom as a whole, but I still want to squee over the material itself! Do you mind if I add you over on twitter? (No worries if not!)

Still early enough in watching that it's hard to judge fave character tbh, but I am LOVING wwx's energy, and I have a suspicion that lxc is going to be a favourite! In fic lxc has come across as just....fine, but watching him on screen all of a sudden I love him. I also have suspicions I am going to love nhs from what I know of him from fic, and I'm really curious to see what I will think of jgy! Who are your faves?

INTERESTING, I don't think many people would say LXC is their favorite! NHS is my favorite, though he is sadly underappreciated by fandom. I also like JC a lot! They're both interesting characters I think, bc they're faced with difficult choices where traditional morals say they have to do certain impossible tasks

I have never seen/read The Untamed/MDZS but I know a lot of people who are into it! I feel vicariously happy that so many people are feeling the fannish love. :D

Honestly, get ready for all the feels. This fandom has kept me sucked in for a year which is an unusually long time for me.

I failed at reading the novel too. I love the show though and if at any point (i.e probably in the middle of the show) you need a cute break be sure to check out MDZSq. It's 2 min snippets of MDZS where they are chibis, if that's your thing. It's so CUTE!!!!

Anyway I've rambled enough about the Untamed. But, feel free to come squee about it to me, I love hearing about it.

Who are your favourite characters in the Untamed? What's your favourite part of the story? :D

WWX is def my all time fav. It's hard not to love that little gremlin. LWJ is second because how can I not love someone who loves WWX so much. I never can decide if my third fav is NHS or LSZ. LSZ is the best thing, such a good boy, how can you not love wangxian's child. I love NHS in all his manipulative glory, his gremlinness and his love for his brother. I love LXC as well. I relate to his flaws. A lot of people rag on him for not seeing through JGY but love can be blind.

HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT JYL. The best sister ever. They only only person who would look at the Yiling Patriarch and Sandu Shengshou and go those are my little brothers and dote on them.

One of the things I enjoy most is the fact that every character has flaws (except *maybe* LSZ) It's very real.

My favorite parts are mostly in the last 10 eps. I really find the resolution of the show very satisfying. (I've re-watched a lot of those eps within a month or two as well. So they are fresher in my mind.) Though in the first two eps that awkward tea scene between JC & LWJ is hilarious in hindsight. Oh the scene where WWX starts reciting the Lan Rules at the Wen Indoctrination.

I love the snow scene in ep 42 or 43, I think it's the most romantic scene in the show. The identity reveal between WN & LSZ, also the one between LSZ & WXX at the very end. Probably eps 42-46 are my favorite.

Okay I could keep adding scenes but I might end up with the whole show!

If you'd like to try the novel again there's another, somewhat smoother translation now! I feel like this is the first time we've had a real, proper megafandom since CA:WS, almost.

It's been my go-to fandom for fic for over a year now but I still haven't watched any of the show. :D

It really is amazing how much this fandom is just taking over as a proper megafandom, I did not expect it from a show like this at all, and I did not expect to be joining it myself tbh. But it's so good!

I relate! I missed this feeling of giddy falling-in-love with a fandom! It's so fun!

Every time I think, 'surely MZDS has reached saturation point by now?' someone else falls into the vortext and I love watching the process every time ... more vicarious first-time reactions for me!!! :D
