oh hey guess what! the good guys target shooting involving prisoners of war DOES NOT happen in the novel, despite it being otherwise willing to have protagonists do bad things! yes that scene in cql is ENRAGING tbh and I just kind of mentally edit it out of my personal canon. but not watching the show is a valid choice also.

seeing the changes via the trickle-down effect in the fics must have been so interesting! I kind of wish I'd been there to see it happen myself! I love learning about canons via fanfic. but woobification of wwx was already baked in when I got here.
