X-MEN!
Oh look, a post that's not about bandom! By which I mean, X-MEN TIME.
Today I saw the first X-Men movie for the first time since I was 13 and Essie just had to make me watch this amazing film, no really Sophia it's awesome!
At the time I...was not properly appreciative. By which I mean, I enjoyed the film, more or less, but had no particular need to call it anything even approaching "awesome". It was, in fact, a resounding "meh".
SO YOU CAN GUESS HOW HARD SHE IS LAUGHING AT ME NOW. She's all, "notice how I'm not saying anything," and then grinning at me, and I have no leg to stand on because HEY she was right, it's an awesome movie and it only took me 9 years to realize it.
SO! FIRST THINGS FIRST. ERIK/CHARLES I SHIP IT SO HARD. They were adorable in their calm understanding of each other, and their knowledge that they're on opposite sides and can't convince each other and are in fact ENEMIES and yet they still call each other "old friend" and Charles comes to play chess with him in prison. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥!
But actually, most of the movie didn't really focus on Erik and Charles, and a lot of it was about the COMPLETELY AMAZING PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ROGUE AND WOLVERINE AND OH MY GOD IT WAS AMAZING. Rogue&Wolverine FOREVER YOU GUYS. Can I just watch them being adorable together for always?
It was great watching this movie with Essie who's seen it I think more than a dozen times? Anyways she's SUPER familiar with it, and thus has had plenty of time to think about and notice all the nuances and also all the subtle PROBLEMS, and she is happy to point them all out and it is good times, let me tell you.
So there are ~plans~ to watch X2 asap, possibly this evening depending on how plans work out, and then there will be ALL OF THE FIC-READING.

Also, oh my god I adore X2 for all sorts of reasons. None of them are actually Peter Wingfield, but in fact Peter Wingfield is there, being the baddie's second-in-command, just for maximum hilarity.

I actually really love their relationship, since it's almost mentor/student but Wolverine isn't exactly in a position of authority over her—he's still figuring shit out too. And Rogue is precious.
