MOAR X-MEN
Just saw X2! And I was sure I'd never ever seen this one before, but scenes kept on looking ever so slightly familiar, which means that somehow Essie must have managed to get me to watch it when it first came out too, despite the failure she experienced with the first X-Men movie. APPARENTLY SHE'S VERY CONVINCING.
SO THIS MOVIE WAS AWESOME OR SOMETHING. I am still all over the Wolverine&Rogue, and the Charles/Erik. But also there was LOTS OF OTHER AWESOME.
I love the way that Erik and Mystique and the X-Men work together with astonishingly little issue when they've got the same goal. No angsting over the fact that they're ~enemies~, they're just like, welp, Striker has Charles, WE'D BETTER FIX THAT. That was awesome.
I loved Kurt Wagner, except Essie's been quoting a line of his at me for years and I just discovered that she's been QUOTING IT WRONG. This was a heartbreaking betrayal! (the line: "My name is Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich circus they called me the Incredible Nightcrawler." Essie always said "Amazing" instead of "Incredible". It actually felt really wrong to hear him say that line with the word "Incredible"!)
The whole thing with Jason was just tragic oh wow. When Striker wheeled him out for the first time I was like oh my god what is he doing to that poor mutant, and then it is revealed that it's his SON and I went WIBBBBBBBLE.
Peter Wingfield was in the movie! That was awesome. Although it kind of made me wonder about the reasons why Methos had ended up working for Striker. :P If you have any theories, please do share! (...and now I'm wondering how Immortals would work in the X-Men universe. Clearly they're mutants too, only why are there so many of them with the same mutation? And they seem to have been around a lot longer than mutants in general, since they've been around for at least 5000 years, whereas X-Men gives me the impression that mutants are a lot more recent. Clearly this requires further thought! Or, again, if you have any theories, share!)
What else? Um, apparently the scene that had the most impact on me that elusive first time I watched this movie was the one with Wolverine in the bit of the underground base that had the bubbly adamantium and the other stuff to do with his history. And then he fights the woman who's like him. Because that scene was SUPER FAMILIAR, in a way most of the rest of the film wasn't.
Magneto's plan in this movie made me very sad when it's compared with the last movie. Last movie, he was going to turn the world leaders into mutants, to force them into being on his side. Which isn't a particularly nice thing to do but is totally understandable and I might even be able to be convinced it's a good idea. Whereas in this one he's like, KILL ALL THE HUMANS. Erik, I am far less sympathetic now!
Hmm. I was sure I had other thoughts I wanted to address, but I can't remember them, so whatever. In conclusion: AWESOME MOVIE. THE END.

Re: Methos in the X-Men universe, I have no actual useful theories, but I do want to state for the record that I think it would be unimaginably horrible for Methos if he had to deal with Charles. Someone exists who can look into his mind and see his entire history, including maybe some of the things he's forgotten, and know him? HORROR.
I ... try to be less sympathetic of Erik when his plan is KILL ALL THE HUMANS, but -- idk, I guess his plan is always "protect the mutants" and when he saw the opportunity with Charles and Cerebro, he took it. TERRIBLE PLANS, ERIK, and yet I still kind of love him unreasonably.
Also I think I may rewatch this one tonight. :D

...oh wow now I REALLY WANT TO READ Methos dealing with Charles. Because I totally didn't even think of that, but it is TRUTH.
That is the thing about Erik! He's got genuinely good intentions, he's just also a really messed up dude, and I can totally understand given his history that he'd have trouble believing the persecuted minority will be accepted into broader society and that he thus has no choice but to protect his people at all costs. I can understand that and love him for it even when I'm going OH ERIK NO DON'T YOU DARE.
Rewatching this movie can never be a bad idea, methinks!

As for Erik -- I just figure he's got really, really, really horrible PTSD. He's not going to make coherent sense all the time. He's just trying to make himself feel better because ALL IS DARKNESS. (Especially since he broke up with Charles and that is always eating at his soul.)

And yeah, I can buy that theory of Erik. OH ERIK.
