The Impossible Astronaut: A more detailed reaction
I am not catching myself up on my flist and rlist from being gone for an extended Easter weekend. SO MUCH TO DO IN MY REAL LIFE. SO BUSY. AHHHHH. (I hate moving. Why do I own so much clothing? Why do I own so many books? And why does there have to be MOLD on a bunch of my books? DO NOT WANT!) But! I cannot resist posting more about Doctor Who. Because let's face it, when can I ever resist ANYTHING to do with Doctor Who's awesomeness?
So here is a bunch of spoilery discussion of The Impossible Astronaut.
Okay. First things first, there were a lot of epic lines. I laughed out loud a LOT while watching the episode. Which is something I always appreciate in a show.
Second, HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THAT THERE IS A LARGE TEAM TARDIS? Instead of Doctor Plus One Companion, there's ALL SORTS of other people with him in the TARDIS! And it is SO GREAT! I have allllll the love for this fact. And watching Team TARDIS interact apart from the Doctor? ALSO GREAT. River and Rory and Amy talking beneath the TARDIS console without the Doctor, and the Doctor getting tetchy about it, was super amazing.
Third, RORY THE ROMAN. Hee! I love that the Doctor called Rory that both times he saw Rory for the first time in this episode! Also, I love that it was Rory that suggested doing it "properly" with the burning of the Doctor. Because Rory the Roman totally would have lived through time periods when that would have been the way that people were honoured at their death, so of course it's him that suggests it.
Fourth,Badger Mark Sheppard Canton! He was super awesome! I love him! (and I'm loling forever at "You've got a box that's bigger on the inside and travels in space and time. How long has Scotland yard had this?")
Fifth, wait, I haven't talked about the awesomeness of Amy and River yet? THEY WERE AMAZING TOO. AND ALSO THE DOCTOR. I just don't have any specific amazingness I feel the need to talk about.
Though I DO have more to say about River. Well, you know me and my ongoing problems with her...
As Tei said in her reaction post, "Also, I think my definition of 'loving River' is basically the same thing as 'shipping Doctor/River.'" And that is my problem with River. When I make myself look at River apart from all the other elements in the show, she's AMAZING AND FANTASTIC and I could be so very in love with her. But the show keeps on making these little statements that ship River/Doctor, and in a subtly but distinctly sexual way. And that makes me go NONONONONO GO AWAY RIVER STOP THIS THE DOCTOR IS ASEXUAL. If the show even shipped River/Doctor asexually, I'd be down with it, even though my otp is Doctor/Master. Because River IS awesome. And totally the Doctor's type. But...gah. I think my problem is just that Moffat is, well, a very sexual person and cannot imagine anyone else NOT being sexual. So he keeps on trying to make the Doctor more sexual, and it just makes me SO UPSET because basically everything else about the show under Moffat is absolutely amazing, but in this one extremely important detail about the Doctor we differ, and I can't get over that.
But I read a fic today in which River was awesome, and also her flirty self, but THERE WERE NO SEXUAL REFERENCES, and I totally loved River for the entirety of the fic. So if Moffat could just cut out the sexual references I'm quite sure that I'd find myself securely in the adoration-of-River camp. I just don't feel like that's likely to happen....
(Oh! I should tell you what fic it was. It was Place Between here and The Destination, by
antistar_e, a The Social Network/Doctor Who crossover. Except that's the sequel to another fic, and you should totally read the other fic first, because it's awesome too. Both fics are TOTALLY AMAZING and I love them muchly. Anyways. The first fic is Place That Don't Know My Name. Read it!)
In less squeeful things, I'm not so much a big fan of the Amy being pregnant thing. I mean, I totally called it, in an "I HOPE THAT'S NOT WHAT THEY'RE HINTING AT" way, from the first time Amy felt ill and clutched her stomach. But the way it went about being revealed was really rather odd, especially since the nausea seemed connected with seeing the forgetting-monsters, and River felt it too, so I'm calling hijinks on this one. At least, that's what I'm hoping.
Anyways. That is all for now, I am thinking! YOU CAN BE SURE I WILL HAVE MORE THOUGHTS AFTER THE NEXT EPISODE! Can it be Saturday yet? Or, the even bigger question, will I have time on Saturday to watch it?

I know I didn't mention the sexy River/Doctor thing or the pregant!Amy thing but that was EXACTLY because I am very busy being all DO NOT WANT about it all. So much do not want ;_;
And I agree with you that River could be so awesome, and River/Doctor even as long as they didn't try to make it into a heterosexual monogamy thing, because I really do love their dynamic terribly much.
And yes not!Badger's Scotland Yard line was great -- it WAS such a very quotable ep!
Also I am sorry about your moldy books :o( That is very much not good!

Moffat's eps are always delightfully quotable! It's something I love about them.
Apparently I just have moldy LOTS OF STUFF, because the walls of my bedroom are moldy. /o\ Mold on my desk legs, mold on my bookcase, mold on some of my shoes... But the moldy books are the most alarming. BOOKS. MY PRECIOUSSSS.
