Public transportation fic recs

When I posted Scenarios I mentioned maybe doing a set of PUBLIC TRANSIT fic recs. Here it is! Because it is a glorious trope, and all of the following are glorious examples of the trope at its best. (okay, so some of them don't fit the standard trope pattern EXACTLY, but they still involve public transit so WHATEVER I'm including them anyways BECAUSE I CAN)

(I'm not including airplanes in forms of public transit for the purpose of this recs-set because it's not something I thought to tag as being this, but upon reflection it kind of is. Please forgive this lapse on my part.)

Hee, you linked Lost Luggage! Is not Nemo_the_Everbeing THE BEST? (I seem to recall crediting them on a Sapphire & Steel drabble once because I couldn't have gotten Steel's voice right without, or some such.)

...I have no time to read any of these right now. Nor to answer any of the half-dozen comments of yours I have open in various tabs. I am, in fact, completely fried in my brainpan and trying to read LOTR from a researchy POV. And tiiiiiired. o_O

(More about LOTR research after finals. I have a bad habit of not finishing things I babble happily about. But it's for a 15-20 page research paper for English class and I have come up with THE BEST TOPIC OKAY. *zzzzzzzz*)

It's the geologic history of Middle-Earth! :D It wants narrowed down more than that (my teacher, who helped me come up with the topic, went O_O at the idea of narrowing it any further, but honestly it is a book-length topic once I get started) - I might wind up doing just Rohan and surrounding areas, because there's plenty of material for a 15-20 page paper in just Isengard, Rohan, and the Emyn Muil including the Rauros / Argonath area. Tolkien was startlingly thorough at the hard-science background of his story for a language scholar.

But for now I'm doing a read-through on the whole book, making notes. I've finished four chapters, and I've got five typed pages of book-quotes with notes like "check if silicic magma does the 'pools of fire' thing when not erupting or if this indicates more mafic magma". :-)
