Snowflake Challenge, part one
So here's the post I was ACTUALLY planning on posting today!
I'm gonna do that Snowflake challenge, extremely late, BECAUSE I CAN and because it is super awesome.
DAY ONE: "post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created."
The Death of Each Day's Life
Fairy Tales; Sleeping Beauty gennish; ~500 words
"These days she never sleeps."
This is one of the fics that I'm proudest of, even though it's very short. I like what I did with the lyricism of the tone, and I think I did a good job conveying what I intended to convey. And I like the idea.
I Never Said This Job Was Easy
Hark! A Vagrant; Mystery Solving Teens gen; ~1k words
"One person he'll tell he loves, and five he won't."
It was really fun getting into the head of this person who's really very different from me, and finding the ways he shows affection for people in his teenage-boy way. I like the characters and the family I built for him, too -- especially his grandmother. The section with the grandmother is secretly my favourite part of the fic. This is also probably one of my more dialogue-heavy fics, and I'm proud of that too, because writing out realistic-sounding conversations is always a struggle for me.
Podfic of Fiction, by
aria
Highlander; Methos/Duncan; ~30 minutes
""Oh God, you found Carolyn's book," Duncan said, sounding at least five hundred times less mortified than Methos had hoped."
I have no intelligent thoughts to say about why I like this particular podfic of mine. All I can say is that I've listened to it probably a billion times and yet only get itches to redo bits of it in a few places.
DAY TWO: "post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create." (with focus on fanworks less likely to be praised)
Three fics that are really creepy. Because fandom tends to like fluff or angst over creepy!
The Sharpest Lives, by
kat_lair
bandom; Gerard/Mikey; <500 words
"serial killer AU, dark, implied violence, all around wrongness"
I. Um. Oh gosh. This is not the sort of fic I usually read? I do not like serial killers and I really do not like incest, AND YET. This is sharp and delicious and great.
Peter Gabriel Song Resplendent, by
apiphile
Inception; Arthur/Eames; ~4k words
"Written in direct reaction to gits describing a perfectly innocuous fic as "creepy". No, you pack of gibbering jessies, *this* is creepy."
YYYUP. THIS IS REALLY EFFECTIVELY CREEPY.
Et In Arcadia Ego, by
apiphile
X-Men: First Class; Charles/Erik; ~6k words
"Everything’s just fine and beautiful between the world’s most lovely mutants. No, really. It is."
Apparently Apiphile's just really good at creepy or something, BECAUSE THIS TOO. It's an amazing slow build of subtle creepy that by the end has you shivering, especially because this is a really plausible interpretation for things could go.
DAYS THREE AND FOUR: Accomplished!

Is that podfic something I can listen to without knowing Highlander?
no subject
