Why yes, this is my fifth time reading this book in as many years since it's been published, thanks for asking. IT'S JUST THAT GOOD. By which I mean, there may be books out there that are more technically excellent, but this is the kind of book that I am capable of loving in a way that means I'm always happy to spend more time in its world. I was prescient in my first read of this book when I already looked forward to my fifth reread in the full expectation it would happen. (Next read will be the fifth REread, but at this point it seems a given that I'll get there.)

I'm not finding anything new in this book at this point, after so many times reading it, but rereading doesn't have to be about ever-deeper dives. It's enough that I love this book, and that it's always there for me when I want it or need it. And I really needed it right now.

(I hope that someday the author writes more under her Katherine Addison pen name, since the things she publishes under Sarah Monette are not my kind of thing at all.)
