Bayou Magic, by Jewell Parker Rhodes
Nov. 9th, 2021 08:07 pmThis is a children's fantasy novel set in the bayous of Louisiana, featuring a 9 year old Black girl learning about her family's magical heritage and finding a place she belongs. A good book, but the prose style was very choppy, with very short sentences and phrases, and it meant I could never really settle into the book. It's not as bad as Chuck Wendig (I struggled SO much with the one book of Wendig's I read!) but it's still not a prose style I enjoy reading. Which means I wanted to like this book a lot more than I actually liked it. Sigh.
